The city museum is housed in the oldest preserved building of Marianske Lazne, a fine example of 19th century architecture. It was constructed in 1818 to host the inn “Golden Grape”, for guests. There, also stayed in 1823, the German poet Johann Wolfgang Goethe, as pointed out by the memorial plaque over the entrance. Between 1975 – 1979, the building was renovated and a new single-storey building was built in the yard, featuring a projection room, an auditorium and an additional showroom. The museum is open daily, except Mondays, from 9:30 to 17:30. The permanent exhibition presents the history of the thermal town and the outdoor Geological Park “Johann Wolfgang von Goethe”, spanning 10 hectares of garden next to the museum, refers to the geological past of the region.
