The long, dormant period in the life of the Rubezahl Castle Hotel, among with the complacence of previous management and the inadequate maintenance, left some evident scars that detracted from its former glory days. There was serious deterioration in the interior decoration, taking a toll on its otherwise beautiful frescoes among other things. In many cases, the damage was quite considerable, but luckily restorable with the required tender loving care.
A New Era
In 2008, the new owner of the castle hotel, envisioning the revival of the once astounding castle hotel of the region, undertook the entire project of its renovation, with no qualms about the amount of work or the enormous economic cost to be incurred.
Only the best craftsmen and the finest materials were chosen: various types of wood from Indonesia, delicate pink marble from Verona, Italy, lustrous white marble from Greece, marvelous green and pink onyx from China, as well as elegant furniture from Italy and Egypt.
With great respect to the history of the building, the restorative architects completely retained the original design and interior decoration, and successfully revived the several tapestrys that date back to the 18th century on the walls of the castle hotel’s halls.
Upon completion of the work in 2014, the fully renovated and completely restored castle had regained its unique atmosphere once again. Perhaps the spirit of Rubezahl aided in this quest by fulfilling the current owner’s wish to regenerate the building and reignite the legend it carries, thus reinstituting the “giant’s” statue at the same location within the park, where it originally belonged.
